Punch biopsy is performed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/deltadermpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Pseudoxanthoma-Elasticum-Low-Power-HE-21.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/deltadermpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Pseudoxanthoma-Elasticum-High-Power-HE-2.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/deltadermpath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Pseudoxanthoma-Elasticum-High-Power-vvG-Stain.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Elastic stain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Diagnosis:\u00a0<\/strong>Pseudoxanthoma elasticum<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discussion:<\/strong>\u00a0Pseudoxanthoma elasticum is a rare genodermatosis with mutations in the\u00a0<em>ABCC6<\/em>\u00a0gene. Women are affected twice as often as men. The cutaneous manifestations are usually the first to come to clinical attention and classically involve the lateral neck.<\/p>\n<p>Histology shows swollen and abnormally clumped elastic fibers in the mid to lower dermis. These fibers become calcified and so stain basophilic on H&amp;E. This change in the elstic fibers is also known as elastorrhexia.
