MELANOMA FISH TEST

We are pleased to announce that we now offer fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) testing as a diagnostic tool to aid in the classification of histologically ambiguous melanocytic lesions. The test is offered through our molecular pathology/cytogenetics division, Delta MDx (www.DeltaMDx.com). Background The vast majority of benign nevi can be distinguished from malignant melanoma on the basis of standard histologic criteria. However, a subset of melanocytic lesions presents a diagnos…   read more >>

IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL SCREENING FOR MUIR-TORRE SYNDROME

We are now offering immunohistochemical staining for MLH-1, MSH-2 and MSH-6, which may be employed as an initial screening test to help identify patients who may have Muir-Torre syndrome.  Background Sebaceous gland neoplasms such as adenoma, epithelioma, and carcinoma may be associated with Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS).  MTS is a rare autosomal dominant genodermatosis characterized by cutaneous sebaceous gland neoplasms and/or keratoacanthomas associated with visceral maligna…   read more >>

MELANOMA BRAF TESTING

We are pleased to announce that we now offer BRAF testing to aid in the molecular sub classification of malignant melanoma.  The test is offered through our molecular pathology division, Delta MDx  (www.DeltaMDx.com). Background B-Raf is a member of the Raf kinase family of serine/threonine-specific protein kinases. This protein plays a role in regulating the RAF-ERK signaling pathway, which affects cell division, differentiation, and secretion (1).  The gene encoding thi…   read more >>

OUR THOUGHTS ON PHOTOMICROGRAPHS ON PATHOLOGY REPORTS

Some laboratories include photomicrographs on their pathology reports and these are often marketed as a value added service, as part of a more sophisticated report, or as somehow beneficial to the patient.  Delta Dermatopathology does not include photomicrographs on our reports.  This is part of a conservative approach with the following considerations in mind: Photomicrographs in pathology reports potentially transfer a portion of the medical-legal liability from the path…   read more >>
